
Conference on the Copyright in Digital Age in USA
From 19 to 23th September, 2011 in Virginia, USA, The United State Patents and Trademarks Office (USPTO) has cooperated with The United State Copyright Office (USCO) to organize a Conference on “Copyright in the digital age”.
Participation in this conference have come from 20 countries and regions, included Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Cape Verde, Estonia, Hong Kong, Hungary, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Moldova, Nepal, Peru, Philippines, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam and host country USA.
During 5 working days, 27 topics focusing on issues of law and enforcement of copyright in the era of digital technology, were presented by experts of USPTO, USCO and others.
The main topics including, overview of the WIPO Internet Treaty and the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA); exclusive rights from analog to digital; The Anti-Circumvention Rulemaking under the DMCA invalid rule against the action technological solutions in the DMCA; limitation and exceptions in the digital age; “fair use” in the United States; impact of copyright industries on domestic economies and the economic harm of piracy; copyright enforcement challenges in the digital age; the Anti – Counterfeiting trade Agreement provisions relating to copyright in the digital age; introduction to collective management of copyrights; music licensing issues in the digital age; free software and open source software in the digital age; emerging business models and piracy in the digital age in the business software, music, film, and book publishing industries; copyright registration in the digital age; copyright challenges in digital distance education…
Topics at the conference that work the new and complex issues in the protection of copyright in the digital era. It is a major challenge for countries, including developing countries like Vietnam and countries have copyright industry development. During the event, Vietnam delegation actively participated in discussions and raise questions to get answers from the experts, to make the forum for information about copyright protection activities in Vietnam. And actively meet and exchange experiences on the sidelines of the meeting with members of a number of countries. Furthermore, delegations have visited working the entertainment software association.
