Summary of software protection propaganda campaign

In the "digital-tech", the use of high-tech digital equipment is becoming more common, the phenomenon of software piracy also occurs more. The legal system of Vietnam has relatively completed in the establishment and protection of IPR. However, the perception on the part of consumers is still low; the rate of software piracy is still high when compared with the region and the world.

With this situation, the Copyright Office, the Inspector of Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism, and the Business Software Alliance (BSA) has made ​​THESOFTWARE COPYRIGHT PROTECTION PROPAGANDA CAMPAIGN.

The campaign is launched on 5/10/2011 in Hanoi and on 5/12/2011 in Ho Chi Minh and authorize Mr. Vu Manh Hung – the representative of Industrial Property, belonging VUGIA and PARTNER, to make propaganda to IT shops across Vietnam for enhancing knowledge of law as well as provide Poster of campaign.

Through practice, there is know that technicians, sales-man offer advice and guidance to consumers and the advise have a great impact on the consumer.

After 3 months of the propaganda and software protection campaign from north Viet Nam to south Viet Nam, Mr. Vu Manh Hung visited 39 IT shops, provided 230 posters, made 15 training sessions (where in: Hanoi with 18 companies, 20 visits, 176 posters provided, 08 training sessions and 89 attendees; Ho Chi Minh City: 16 companies, 19 visits, 42 posters provided, 05 training sessions and 58 attendees; Danang: 29 attendees in 02 training course, 4 companies, 05 visit and 10 posters provided; finally, Vung Tau with a 01 company, 02 posters provided) has made a good result in the perception of the IT shops for copyright.

IT Shops are most likely aware of copyright protection and do not supported in the installation of illegal software.

In training sessions, many class members have put a lot of questions about intellectual property law, copyright, etc.. Although there are so many questions, but most questions is not high-quality. There is showed that understanding of intellectual property law and copyright law has not been thorough. However, the good news is that the members were very interested in issues of intellectual property rights.

Through the campaign, we can found that the propaganda of IP Law, in general, and intellectual property rights for computer programs, in particular, are important for increasing awareness of legal law for all. Especially, there is the group of users. Accordingly, the propaganda of IPR should be taken regularly and continuously with many forms of diversity, richness and for many different attendees to promote understanding of IPR. At the meantime, there is required to provide a lot of propaganda to more consumers for increasing their awareness in using software.

However, with short time and awareness of standing consumers, results of the campaign are encouraging. This is the basis to reverse the infringement.
