The Copyright Office of Vietnam of Vietnam visited and explored the business model of intellectual property in the digital environment at Sconnect

On 17/07/2023, the delegation of the Copyright Office of Vietnam led by Mr. Tran Hoang, Director General of the Copyright Office of Vietnam, Ms. Pham Thi Kim Oanh, Deputy Director General, leaders and officials of specialized departments of the Copyright Office of Vietnam visited and explored the model of copyright exploitation, related rights in the digital environment at Sconnect Vietnam Company.

Sconnect is an enterprise operating the WOA business ecosystem, exploiting business in the fields of: Content production and distribution, content acquisition, content distribution, advertising services, cartoon character licensing, amusement park business, consulting and training, manage and support creators, protect copyrights and exploit musical works. Sconnect’s animation production studio has a scale of more than 10,000m2 in Hanoi, With more than 1,000 employees, Sconnect has mastered the entire production process of animation content, music and the ability to quickly supply to the entertainment market.

The delegation of the Copyright Office of Vietnam visited the WOA business ecosystem, learned about 2D / 3D animation production technologies, Frame by Frame, Stop Motion, Paper Motion … At the same time, learn about the business orientation of intellectual property products, a model that has been applied by many large enterprises in the world but is still quite new in Vietnam. Accordingly, from the beginning of 2023, Sconnect has stepped up cooperation with domestic animation production individuals and organizations to improve the quality of products, providing many Vietnamese animation films meeting international quality standards for the global market. Promote international cooperation, purchase foreign animation products and distribute them in Vietnam.

Also at the meeting, Sconnect representatives shared about the difficulties of businesses when participating in digital content business on global platforms. In particular, mainly institutional difficulties such as: Tax policies applied to the digital content creation industry are still inappropriate. Vietnam’s legal regulations have not been complied with by international platforms, leading businesses to face many disadvantages when doing business globally.

After listening to the difficulties that businesses face when doing business on digital platforms, Mr. Tran Hoang, Director General of the Copyright Office of Vietnam highly appreciated the role of businesses like Sconnect. Mr. Hoang said that with the rapid development of the internet today, the production of content in the digital environment needs to ensure good legality, which must be a top priority. The Director shared his desire to get advice from units to study more policies to promote the development of the digital content industry.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Director General Tran Hoang said that Vietnam urgently needs businesses to boldly invest in content production such as Sconnect to promote the development of cultural industries. With the accumulated experience when participating in the international market, enterprises will also advise state management agencies to research and have timely policies to promote the development of the digital content industry. At the same time, state management agencies will also better understand the needs and difficulties of enterprises to take measures to consult and support businesses when going global. Since then, promoting creative activities and protecting creative achievements and developing the country’s cultural industries.
