On 25th and 26th November 2013 in Hanoi, the Copyright Office of Vietnam (COV) in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)organized the National Workshop on “Copyright for Film Industry Professionals”

Attending the workshop, on the Vietnam side, there were participantscome from involved management and enforcement agencies and a number of film companies. On the WIPO side and WIPO’s speakers, there were Ms. Donna M.A. Hill, Counsellor, Copyright Infrastructure Division, Creative Industries Section, WIPO; Ms. Vijaykumari Kanapathy, Consultant, WIPO Expert on the Economic Contribution of Copyright-based Industries; Mr. Rob Aft, President, Compliance Consulting; Mrs. Wendy Reeds, Executive Vice President, Content Sales and Distribution, Celestial Entertainment.

At the Workshop, the WIPO’s Experts and Vietnam’s Experts presented 10 topics, which related to the protection activities of copyright in the process of creation, exploitation and using of cinematographic works: The Importance of Copyright for the Film Industry; Setting the Scene: Vietnam and the Film Market; The Regional Film Environment: What Producers Need to Know; Copyright in the Film-making Process: From Development to Production to Distribution to Exhibition; The Finance and Distribution Environment, Entering the Global Marketplace for Films; The Art of Selling and Co-Producing Films; Revenue Tracking, Revenue Distribution and Accounting;New Media: A Window of Opportunity.

This will be a good opportunity for the managers, the producers in the film industry to meet and exchange experiences and knowledge of copyright, the process of creation, exploitation and using of cinematographic works. In addition, the Workshop is also an opportunity to improve awareness, as well as enforcement oncopyright protection for creation of the individuals and the organizations in film industry of Vietnam.
